Learning contentment in a culture of more

by Melissa Spoelstra

In this six-week study we will see ourselves in the story of the Israelites as they wandered in the wilderness.  Though God led them out of slavery and provided for all their needs, they grumbled and chose to go their own way instead of following God’s instructions.  As we dig into their story, we will learn to be content while still being authentic about the difficulties of life, accept short-term hardship in light of the greater good of God’s ultimate deliverance and change our perspective from a posture of fear to a posture of faith.  Together we will learn real, lasting contentment as we discover more of our incredible God, the only One who can help us to experience the promised land of peace and contentment in the midst of life’s joys and pains.

We will begin Wednesday, February 5 at 6:30 in the old fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church, Washington, NC. You will need to order a book before the first gathering.

“She’s Still There”

Winter 2020

Registration for “She’s Still There”—Winter 2020

January 15, 2020-February 19, 2020

What do you do if you look in the mirror and realize the life you want is not the life you're living? What do you do if you feel lost in the middle of your life? Or if you feel you've drifted away from your hopes, your dreams, and your plans?

In this six-session video Bible study with group discussion, Chrystal Evans Hurst shares what she's learned about how to love and honor your life—even when your life is not easy to love. You will be encouraged to take an honest look at your life right now . . . and see what might have taken you off track. You will look at Bible passages that reveal how to capture peace in the midst of hard seasons by seeing them as refining moments instead of defining moments. As you focus on the promise of God's truth for your future and run the race He has set for you, you will rediscover that the girl you once saw in the mirror . . . she’s still there.

Each week's video session is 20-25 minutes in length and the study guide includes discussion questions, Bible exploration, and personal study and reflection materials for in-between sessions.
